Drink more milk to loose weight
A recent press release on 21st September 2010, regarding a new weight loss study conducted at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) shows that people who consumed milk or milk products lost more weight irrespective of the diet.
Research found that people with highest calcium consumption of 580 mg per day (12 oz of milk or dairy products) lost about 12 oz (6Kg) at the end of two years. On the other hand, people who have consumed about 150 mg calcium lost only 7 oz of weight on average.
If you are wondering how the participants took so much milk, the food they took comprised of 12 varieties of food including low and regular fat milk, chocolate milk, low and regular fat yogurt, and yellow and white hard cheeses. Researchers also measured vitamin D and body mass index (BMI).
Researchers concluded that both higher daily calcium intake and increased vitamin D have helped the weight loss.
This study was published in the current issue of American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
More than 300 overweight men and women following in weight loss programs participated in this study.
Loosing weight with water
A new study presented in Boston in August 2010 during the annual meet of American Chemical Society suggests that water can help in weight reduction.
Researchers at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg conducted this study on 48 over weight men and women in the age group of 55-75. This number was divided into two groups. Both groups low fat, low calorie diet for 12 weeks, while one group was asked to drink two glasses (each 8 oz) of water before breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
At the end of 12 weeks, those who drank water lost 15.5 pounds on an average where as the other group lost only 11 pounds.
Get rid of clutter and loose weight
Various studies found a relationship between clutter and health. Experts say that clutter is not due to lack of space or even lack of organization. The person with clutter needs to change his/her behavior.
This may seem to be surprising but many people who have lost weight cleared unwanted material from their houses and the reverse also is true. Those who removed clutter around them have lost weight easily.
Similarly people with emotional problems may have problem in clearing the clutter and alternatively, those who cleared the clutter got better. It almost seems as if organization of mind and organization of external space are related.
The non-profit organization ‘National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization (NSGCD)’ provides help and resources for chronically disorganized people. This is a professional help on somewhat larger scale. However for most people some awareness and simple tools to organize their lives would be sufficient. Good tips, fairly unheard of - always nice to get something new in the mix! NBA players drink milk, I knew that. For energy purposes. Water too; staying hydrated and active. As for the stress thing, useful tip ;)
