Hubpages – two new features for writers

Recently there is an addition of two new features in Hubpages dashboard. These are the tools for helping the members in writing the hubs or articles. Incase you are already not a member, sign up Hubpages here

After you login to your account in Hubpages, you will find two additions in 'your account' menu. They are 'My photos Beta' and 'Title Tuner Beta'.

The are the two new features: 'Title tuner' and 'My photos', both of them are still in beta. Beta version implies that they are in final testing and not yet released as full fledged features. When you use beta features, the user feedback is used by the development team to shape the final products. So when you use Beta products or features, you are also helping the development team to identify and remove any possible bugs and make the product better.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that these two new features address the exact problems I had faced recently and offer a great value-add to all writers. Let us see them in more detail.

Hubpages My photos feature
Hubpages My photos feature

My photos

When I was uploading photos, I always felt that there is a need for a staging ground for photos. Also some times we pick up one photo, change to another and later want to go back to the first. The photo upload has become very easy now with the new feature ‘My photos’. This page shows all the photos that were previously uploaded to your Hubpages, as an album.

Accordingly the photo upload menu in edit hub also modified. Earlier you can upload a photo from your computer or from a website. Now there is an additional option where you can choose from your album which is in ‘My photos’. Under this option all the photos from the album ('my photos') are displayed for selection. You can also add multiple photos simultaneously now (up to 20 photos – GIF, JPG or PNG)

Now we can upload photos irrespective of any hub and store them in the album, for later pick up into a hub or as profile photo. This makes hub publishing more easy and less time consuming.

You can also change the titles for photos here, use them directly in a hub or in your profile.

Title Tuner

This is another new feature which is in beta. When I went into this option, I found that it showed few of my hubs available for new suggestions for the title changes.

When I clicked one hub title, there are two kinds of information in this option:

a) Searches by the engine: Shows different keywords, people used in Google search to come to the hub along with number of occurrences for each keyword. Ofcourse, a similar information would be available in Google analytics but that would be in aggregated form and to get specific keyword information for each hub, you need put some effort.

Here in 'Title tuner' the list of keywords used to arrive at your hub is a ready reference and moreover, this is the input taken for suggesting title changes.

One nice feature is you can directly change the hub title from this page without going to edit page of the hub.

Additionally, you can also use more of these keywords in your hub to increase the keyword density wherever relevant.

b) Suggestions for title change: Along with percentages a few keywords are suggested for inclusion in the title. This data is derived from (a) above and is highly useful because by using these words, you can get even more traffic.

This feature is a great tool and makes SEO job more easy. Even someone not familiar with SEO techniques can highly benefit from the title change suggestions.

One caution though. This tool advice is based on how visitors come to your hub. If you have already done the keyword research, and wrote the content and formed the title accordingly, you should already be getting visitors to the key words as expected and there should be no big deviation in the advice. However if it is not so, this is an opportunity to review the content and title with respect to the keywords.

Adding these two additional features is a great value for hub publishers and Hubpages should be congratulated for this improvement. If you have not already experimented with these features, go ahead and checkup

If you are new, you can Signup for hubpages here.

Thanks for explaining this! You spared me the energy to figure this out on my own.

Very nicely put together! Thank you! I've been "missing" around Hubpages for a while and a lot of the new gadgets have felt very intimidating to me. It's nice to have things explained.
